2013 Santa to the Sea—Fast Facts
• HOURS: 7:30AM – 12:30PM
• LOCATION: Oxnard, CA
Event Overview
Santa to the Sea is a non-profit event borne out of a desire to give back to the community. What started in 2003 as a toy drive to celebrate the relocation of the world’s largest Santa Claus from Carpenteria to Oxnard has now grown into a robust running event, toy drive, and community fundraiser.
Now entering its 6th year, Santa to the Sea includes a sanctioned half marathon and a 2-person half marathon relay, plus 5K and 1K Kids fun runs.
Community Impact
The Santa to the Sea Scholarship Fund partners with the Oxnard College Foundation to award $500 scholarships to local high school students and adults continuing their education at Oxnard College. Funded by allocating $5 of every race entry to the program, Santa to the Sea awarded more than 50 scholarships in 2012. The Santa to the Sea Toy Drive collects more than 2,000 items for needy children in the area, with distribution at Santa Claus Park on the Saturday before Christmas. Additional fundraising flows from the event’s Charity Challenge, where runners raise money for local charities of their choice.
